The great wall of China – one of the outstanding achievements of engineering thought, one of the iconic symbols of China. Construction of this impressive facility began in the fourth century BC and lasted for several centuries.

Actually, the Great wall of China – it is three walls, a length of about 5 thousand kilometers. Some parts of fortifications were built even before the great construction. However, the construction began under the Emperor Qin Shi Juan, which gathered a great army of builders of representatives from peasant, warrior castes. Also in these works used the labor of criminals and prisoners. The wall was created in order to protect the country from attacks by the warlike Mongols from the North, and as proofs of the greatness of the Emperor. Needless to say that the construction was carried out with the greatest toll in human lives and in popular mythology, the building was called the “wailing wall”. One of the Chinese ancient legends tells that the wall was destroyed by the tears of the wife by the spouse, who died at the construction site.

The construction of the wall began in other time, in the Han dynasty, which ruled from 206 BC to 220 ad. Centuries later, in 607 year the wall was rebuilt, and to perform large-scale works took about one million workers.
